Today I am going to showcase a card sample from the annual catalog. First we will dry emboss with the 3D Magnolia folder. Then the sample has a watercolor washed background, which is a little different for us, but I thought a great variation on the technique of water coloring.
Dry Embossing with the 3D Magnolia Folder or any 3D Folder.
So first off, when you dry emboss with our new 3D folders (starting in the 2019 annual catalog) you really should use the BLUE Embossing Plate. The new manufacturer of the folders have a slightly different thickness so the clear plates used before a just a bit too thin! You could experiment with shims of cardstock layers to thicken it up, but I have no magic formula to share with you.
Steps for embossing with the Blue Plate:
- So simply place your cardstock into the 3D Folder.
- Place it on the Big Shot platform, fully open if you have a base with tabs.
- Cover with the BLUE Embossing Plate.
- Run through the embossing machine.
Watercolor Wash Background
After the image is dry embossed for this project on watercolor paper. I apply ink with the Aqua Painter to paint the image and watercolor wash the background. I start with Crushed Curry ink on dry watercolor paper for the centers of the flowers. Then I move to Mossy Meadow ink for the leaves, and still try to add color with just a slightly more moist brush. Finally, with Petal Pink ink and a wetter brush, I finish off the background.
